The film “The Shepherd of Words” follows the award winning Amnon Shamosh through the stepping stones of his life – his house in Haleb in Syria, his first years in Tel Aviv, his life in Kibbutz Ma’ayan Baruch where he worked as a shepherd, his career as a writer. Coming to Palestine in 1938 he discovered the meaning of being ‘Oriental’, of being alienated. The contempt and arrogance with which he first, made him want to light a candle which will illuminate his world, by writing about the richness of oriental Judaism.
Towards the end of the film he states:
“Physically we are in the 21st century. Mentally I am still in the 20th century. I am just a guest in the 21st.”
