Literature Study: (0) Romeo and Juliet – Introduction to the Text

William Shakespeare’s tragic love story, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ continues to garner praise in its many varied productions across stage, film and printed media. This enduring love story remains a significant text because of the challenging themes contained within and their striking importance to the post-modern world. This resource was constructed with the British GCSE curriculum in mind, but I have also used it within the American education system (with a few adaptations and changes). I have taught this text many times in the last 20 years and have used this specific resource to lead my teaching in class, as a distance learning material/Google Meet, as a homework assignment and even as a tool of revision – all have worked well for the students.

This colossal 27 slide PowerPoint lesson contains a starter activity, an author biography, structured questions connected to the prevalent themes and leading characters, an extension task, and homework assignment and a plenary.
